Rosemary’s background includes 32 years in the private sector, as an employee and running my own business. After sixth form she worked in footwear retail – selling shoes, managing shops and then later became a buyer, then buying director. Her own business followed and was about product design, mainly working in Italy, supplying retailers throughout the UK. In the late 1990s the sudden death of her partner led her to rethink life and she began to think about a change in career. She had the wonderful opportunity to return to education, and studied to become a geologist then shared time between study, research and teaching.

Her priorities are education and the environment. She believes in a good formal education for our children and young adults is obviously essential and provides the best start in life. It is also true that by learning new skills, for example, by taking on hobbies, adults of all ages can find unexpected fulfilment.

Before being a councillor, Kate Halliday worked as a social worker. She was elected in a byelection in 2019. She was motivated by respect for what a previous councillor had done in the ward and a desire to see if she could make a few changes and differences to local community.  She enjoys making small changes which can be really rewarding.

She has raised residents’ complaints about inconsiderate parking on pavements or narrow streets in Belle Vue and Old Coleham, especially how commuters park then walk into town, making it hard for residents to access their homes, and potentially blocking space for mobility‑impaired pedestrians or cars and emergency vehicles.

She has chaired and promoted public‑meetings on flood problems affecting Belle Vue and Coleham, she has pointed out the financial and social impact on residents and businesses when flooding repeatedly affects the area. She has spoken up about the potential sale or uncertain future of the English Bridge Workshop, a haven for the art scene in Shrewsbury.
